]]>Juicing cannabis will not get you high. Despite that, raw cold-pressed marijuana juice is becoming more and more popular.
Why? People drink the juice of marijuana leaves because of the numerous health benefits.
Even in legal medical marijuana states, it is nearly impossible to find cannabis juice or raw cannabis leaves and buds available for purchase. I live in Los Angeles and have frequented dispensaries all over the city for the past decade. Never once have I seen it for sale.
If you want to juice cannabis, you will likely need to start growing your own marijuana plants. Just a small closet grow should produce enough to fulfill all your marijuana juicing needs. I run a perpetual harvest grow so that I always have fresh plant materials available.
First of all, cannabis leaves are similar to leafy green vegetables like kale, so it is packed with nutrients like iron, calcium, and fiber.
Raw marijuana leaves are one of our only available sources of cannabinoids.
The cannabinoids found in marijuana plant leaves & raw buds can improve cell function, reduce inflammation, and are even said to have anti-tumor and cancer-fighting properties.
If that’s not an option for you, your next best bet is to make friends with a grower and ask them to donate their fresh leaves and some fresh buds.
I’m going to share with you my personal recipe for marijuana juice. It’s a variation a green juice with, of course, added raw cannabis materials.
If you already drink green juice, you’re gonna love it! Those of you who have not tried green juice yet may find it an acquired taste. I use the tart flavor of both green apple & lime to distract from the grassy veggies.
If you don’t want to make green juice but still want to juice marijuana, I recommend doing it with carrot juice. The sweetness of the carrots will help balance out the bitterness of the cannabis.

]]>Since weed is typically green, you may be wondering “why does some marijuana grow purple?”
There are a few factors that can create purple marijuana:
The purple color in plants, such as marijuana, are created by anthocyanins.
What are anthocyanins?
Well, there are three main chemical groups that compose cannabis: cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids.
Anthocyanins are flavonoids and are responsible for the red, blue, and purple hues present in some strains of marijuana.
Whether the color comes through as red, blue, or purple depends on the PH levels. Acidic PH levels produce red, a neutral PH creates purple, and an alkaline PH will be blue.
If you have a plant that is genetically predisposed to have color, i.e. it produces lots of anthocyanins, you will want to watch your temps to help bring out the color. High temperatures break down anthocyanins, so keep your flowering environment cold to achieve max purple color.
The photos of the marijuana above is a phenotype of ILGM’s Blue Dream strain.
A current very popular purple strain is Ninja Fruit by Ocean Grown.
Now you know why marijuana grows purple! Have fun telling your friends next time you guys are smoking some purple nugs.

]]>These days there are plenty of professional chefs and edible companies pushing the boundaries of creativity when it comes to THC & CBD infused recipes. They’ve inspired me to think outside the box.
While I do enjoy a classic weed brownie every now and then, I generally prefer my edibles a little lighter and healthier.
I often like to start my day with an edible. Sometimes with THC, other times with CBD. This recipe works beautifully with either kind of infused olive oil.
Marijuana avocado toast is a great choice for a breakfast edible or midday snack.
I’m blessed to live in California, which is overflowing with avocados. I usually have several of those and limes sitting in my fruit bowl. You’ll want both for this recipe as well red pepper flakes and salt (I prefer Maldon sea salt, but coarse sea salt and regular table salt will work as well).
I used some THC-infused olive oil made following my Weed Olive Oil recipe.
Simply toss some of that with mashed avocado, squeeze a little fresh lime over the top, then spread on your toast. Add an extra drizzle of weed olive oil if you’d like, then hit it with that salt and red pepper.
Enjoy starting your day off in a healthy and mindful way.

Dispensaries here have been selling marijuana-infused wine for a few years. I had been wanting to try it, but it is usually priced anywhere from $200 – $800/per bottle.
Because I already grow for personal use, I figured I should try my hand at making my own very weed wine recipe.
It’s a great way to use up those small popcorn buds or trim.
Weed Wine Ingredients:
4 – 8 oz Popcorn Buds/Trim
Yeast
4 lbs Fresh Blueberries
2 lbs Sugar
1 Gallon Water
1 Packet Red Star “Pasteur Red” Yeast
Tools Needed To Make Weed Wine:
2 1 Gallon Carboys
Wine Bottles
Cork
Corker
Cheesecloth
Airlock
Siphon/Tubing
*Make sure all of your equipment is sanitized, as you would with making any wine
Wash the blueberries and pick through to remove any spoiled ones. Next, add them and the sugar to a very large pot. Mash the blueberries and sugar together (I use a potato masher).
Add the water and stir until well combined. Over medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a very gentle boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature. (This could take several hours.)
Place the popcorn buds and trim into one of your carboys. Add the blueberry wine mixture, then sprinkle in the yeast packet. Cover with your airlock and put in a dark place to ferment.
During fermentation, the carboy can overflow a little. I like to the floor around in a few layers of newspaper for easy cleanup.
About 4 weeks later, your weed wine should be done fermenting.
Now you need to siphon the wine from the old carboy to a freshly sanitized new carboy. When doing this, make sure not to transfer the few inches of sediment at the bottom of the first jug. You will also not be transferring the buds & trim.
Put the airlock on your new carboy and leave in the same place you fermented the first jug for another four weeks.
At the end of that month, I siphon out the wine into a giant bowl, filtering with a cheesecloth. This helps to get out all those little leaves or pieces of bud that may have stuck around. Just like the first time, there will be an inch or two of sediment in the bottom of your carboy, do not transfer this.
Once your wine has been trained through the cheesecloth, it is time for bottling.
I picked up a cheap set of wine bottles on Amazon, along with a handheld corker and cheap corks. Just fill each bottle up, cork, then place in a dark, cool place to age. It is best to let it age 6 months – 1 year.
Remember that this drink combines both alcohol and marijuana. I don’t use decarbed marijuana, so it is a mild high, but I would recommend taking it easy your first time. Especially if you don’t consume edibles often.
Enjoy Responsibly!

]]>I often found myself wanting to medicate, but could not stand the thought of eating all the sugar in one of the brownies or cookies the dispensary sold. So this past year, I have been trying to make many different healthy marijuana edible recipes.
I started with a simple marijuana infused hummus recipe. If you don’t know, hummus is basically just chickpeas and sesame seeds. For my first attempt, I went with the traditional flavoring using garlic and some lemon juice. I might get a little crazier next time.
Ingredients:
1 15oz Can Chickpeas
1/2 Cup Tahini
1/4 Cup Weed Infused Olive Oil
1/8-1/4 Cup Olive Oil
2 Cloves Garlic, peeled
1 tsp Paprika
1 Lemon, juiced
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
Directions:
Drain the chickpeas, but reserve the liquid & set aside.
In a food processor, puree the chickpeas, tahini, marijuana olive oil, regular olive oil, garlic, paprika, lemon juice, and half of the reserved chickpea liquid. If the mixture does not become smooth, add in more chickpea liquid until it does.
Place in a bowl. Sprinkle with paprika and drizzle with additional marijuana infused olive oil.
Serve with bread or veggies.
Store in an airtight container up to one week.

]]>Using jiffy pellets is a very safe and easy way to germinate your marijuana seeds. There are only a few steps, which I will go over here in detail.
You can find jiffy pellets and almost every garden store, or you can order them here. (Of course I always order them online because I am a lazy stoner.)
They come dry and compressed. We will need to add water to them so they expand and become usable for planting.
You should NOT soak the jiffy pellets. They will become too wet and if you squeeze them out they can become unstable.
Instead, we need to slowly pour 1 cup of water over them. Then wait several minutes until they expand.
Once the jiffy pellets have expanded, we can plant our marijuana seeds.
It is very important to only put one marijuana seed per jiffy pellet.
Take one of your seeds and put it about .5″ deep in the pellet. It does not matter which way the seed is turned. Cover it with some of the top soil.
If you have a jiffy pellet kit with a dome, place that over the top. Marijuana seeds need a relatively humid environment to germinate, and the dome will help with that. Just make sure to take it off a few times per day so the seeds can get fresh air.
It will take the seeds a few days to germinate. It is very important to make sure that they jiffy pellets do not dry out during this time.
The ideal temperature marijuana seed germination is 70°-78°, so try to keep the jiffy pellets in an environment that can accommodate that.
Anywhere from 2-8 days later, you will see your marijuana seeds begin to pop their heads out of the jiffy pellets. This will not happen to all your seeds at one time, so be patient and do not mess with the ones that need a little extra time.
Once the seeds have broken through the soil, they will need to be placed on either a 24/0 or 16/8 light schedule to start the germination phase.
Good luck with germinating your marijuana seeds with jiffy pellets! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments below.

What You Need To Make Weed Olive Oil:
How To Make Weed Olive Oil:
The first thing when need to do when making our marijuana infused olive oil is to decarb our cannabis. This should be the first step of making any edible.
To give you the “explain like I’m 5” version of decarboxylation, it’s when you turn the THCA molecules into psychoactive THC. If you do not go through the process of decarboxylation, your oil/butter/edibles will not be as potent as it could and should be.
Decarbing the weed is simple.
Preheat your oven to 280 degrees. Take a baking sheet and cover it with aluminum foil. Spread your weed out in a single layer over the baking sheet. Place another layer of aluminum foil on top, crimping loosely on the sides. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to sit for 5 minutes with the foil still on top.
Bring a large pot of water to a gentle simmer.
Place the french press in the pot. Pour the oil inside. If you do not have a french press you can use a double boiler, then strain it through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer at the end.
Add the decarbed marijuana to the olive oil. Place the top back on the french press. Press the plunger until it is just above the oil. Make sure the water in the pot is always above the oil line. It is important to check every 20-30 minutes, as the water will evaporate and you will need to add more. Set a timer so you don’t forget.
Once the weed olive oil has simmered for 4 hours, remove it from the pot. Press the plunger all the way down and strain the olive oil into a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator for longest life.

]]>The post What You Need To Start Growing Marijuana Indoors appeared first on How To Weed.
]]>With so many new opportunities to grow marijuana, a lot of people are asking “What do I need to start growing weed indoors?”
The truth is, you really only need a few things to start growing your own marijuana indoors.
There are several different options available but in this article we’re to keep it simple and focus on a good set up for a beginner.
First of all, you will need a light source. I highly recommend going with LEDs for a few reasons: cost and heat.
The most commonly recommended LED light for growing marijuana is the Mars 300. I have used this for over a dozen grows and it is a workhouse. For less than $80, it’s easy to see why it is a favorite of the industry.
I also have a Mars 600 and if you are looking for more light or lighting a bigger space, at $160, it is also a great deal.
These lights barely emit any heat and are cool to the touch.
Low electric cost. 2 added about $20/mo to my utility bill.
This could be a closet that you have verified has no light leaks. (This is imperative for the flowering stage in which cannabis needs 12 hours of uninterrupted dark)
Most people opt to go with a grow tent. I recommend the Gorilla Grow tent line. They are probably the most respected grow tent maker in the industry.
If you’re on a budget, their Gorilla Grow Lite line is a great choice. I’ve been using this one for a year and it is still going strong.
Even though I live in a legal state, I don’t want my place to reek of marijuana. Plants, even before flower, have a very strong odor. That’s why I use a carbon filter.
A carbon filter scrubs the air in your grow tent or sealed grow space before venting it back out. If you have set it up properly and your grow is in fact sealed, you will not be able to smell your plants at all. Even in flower.
Obviously, you will need a growing medium. For a beginner, I recommend going with soil.
Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil is a popular choice for marijuana growers.
Black Gold is another good option.
If you go with another soil to grow your marijuana, just make sure it doesn’t have any time-release nutrients. In general, it is a good thing to avoid all things “miracle grow” when growing marijuana.
I recommend going with Smart Pots. They are cheap and lightweight. Because the sides are soft, they are actually better for roots than traditional hard-sided pots.
You will want probably a 1-gallon Smart Pot for seedlings, and a 3-gallon or 5-gallon for adult plants.
If you’re using a high-quality soil like Fox Farm Ocean Forest, you won’t need nutrients for at least the first month.
After that, your plant will have depleted most of the nutrients in the soil and you will need to add your own. I have always used and had great experiences with Fox Farm Nutrients. I use the trio of Tiger Bloom, Big Grow, and Big Bloom.
I follow the Fox Farm Feeding schedule, but at 1/2 strength. Most growers would recommend this as well.
Above are all of the items that you need to grow marijuana indoors. Below is a list of a few other items that you may want to buy to help you grow weed.
I keep one of these in my grow tent to keep an eye on both the humidity and temperature. This is the one I use. It’s only $9 and I’ve had it for years.
A PH meter will help you give your plants the right amount of nutrients. I have had successful grows without one, but it will certainly make your life easier to have one.
A small fan blowing on your plant will help its branches grow stronger and improve overall airflow. I have two in my tent.
You will want to prune your plant throughout the different stages of its life. I recommend purchasing these clippers (for small/young branches) and these shears (for larger branches).
If you purchase all of these items, you will have everything you need for your first indoor marijuana grow.

]]>The post When Was Marijuana Made Illegal In The United States? appeared first on How To Weed.
]]>
The short answer is that marijuana was made illegal in the US when the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 passed.
The truth, however, is that marijuana was made illegal in stages. To learn about those times, it is important to know a little about the history of marijuana in America.
Early American history is filled with hemp (a low THC variety of cannabis plant that can not get you high), because King James ordered every colonist to grow 100 hemp plants in 1916. They were to grow the hemp and export the fiber. It was used to make rope & fabric.
Founding Father’s such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp. Things like bible’s, maps, Betsy Ross’ American flag, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution were all made from hemp.
The medical use of marijuana didn’t come to America’s attention until 1841, when William Brooke O’Shaughnessy introduced it to Western society. He astonished everyone when he relieved a convulsing infant with cannabis. He was also able to stop muscle spasms cause by tetanus and rabies by using resin.
By the 1850’s, Cannabis extract fluid could be found in American pharmacies.
In the 1880’s, hashish parlors were flourishing in New York City. There are estimates that over 500 such establishments existed at the time. They were also popular in most other east coast cities, including Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
In the early 1900s, pharmaceuticals began to be regulated. This was also an attempt to start regulating recreational narcotics. The Pure Food and Drug Act was passed in 1906 and required the labeling of any cannabis contained in over-the-counter remedies. The law was strengthened in 1910. Now cannabis would only be available from the pharmacy with a doctors prescription.
After 1910, some states began to pass their own laws regarding cannabis. Further regulation of cannabis followed in Massachusetts (1911), New York (1914 -Towns-Boylan Act), Maine (1914). The first in the West was California (1907 – The Poison Act), followed by Wyoming (1915), Texas (1919), Iowa (1923), Nevada (1923), Oregon (1923), Washington (1923), Arkansas (1923), Nebraska (1927), Louisiana (1927), and Colorado (1929).
By 1931, 29 states had outlawed marijuana.
In 1937, The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was passed. This made possession or transfer illegal on a federal level in the United States. (Though there was an exemption for medical & industrial uses).
A few decades later in 1969, the Supreme Court said that the Marihuana Tax Act was unconstitutional. Congress passed the Controlled Substances Act, which took the place of the Marihuana Tax Act.

This guy, John Berfelo, actually lab tested rosin chips to see just how much THC is leftover.
But how to utilize that leftover THC in the rosin chips?
My personal favorite way is to infuse them with coconut oil. It’s effective, cheap, easy, and versatile.
You can use substitute coconut oil for butter in most recipes.
Coconut oil is also a superior fat for infusing marijuana because it is one of the highest concentration of saturated fats of any cooking oil. This fat is beneficial because it retains cannabinoids.
More fat = more cannabinoids = a stronger and better high!
Rosin Chips (I use about 20 grams, but I like mine really strong. You may want to use half that.)
Coconut Butter
French Press Coffee Pot (This is the easiest thing to use. If you don’t have one/don’t want to buy one you will need to make a double boiler, use a strainer and a cheesecloth. Trust me when I say you should just use a french press)
Medium Large Cooking Pot
Mason Jar or Other Container To Store Coconut Oil In
Weigh out your rosin chips so you know exactly how much is going to go in your oil. I used 20.2 grams of some marijuana that has about 15% THC (before it was pressed). You may want to use as little as 10 grams, depending on how potent you want yours to be.
Place the rosin chips in a clean french press with half a cup of coconut oil.
Put the lid on the french press and place it in a pot of simmering water. (Simmering, not boiling. If the water is boiling you will be cooking off the precious THC.)
Simmer for 2-4 hours. Make sure to check the water line every 20-30 minutes. It should remain above the rosin chips and coconut oil. Add more as necessary.
After simmering for a few hours, the rosin chip coconut oil is ready to be jarred. I pour mine into these small mason jars, then seal them and place in the fridge for a few hours.
After it has solidified, your rosin chip coconut oil will look something like this. You are now ready to make some edibles and medicate!
